At the tender age of 8 years old, our pastry chef Heather Davis began a tradition that would one day become a passion. Heather\u2019s love of creating sweet treats was birthed from baking holiday cookies with her mother. \u00a0Although the native Houstonian initially took a traditional career path to become a teacher, she continued to develop her craft as a baker. Though Heather would often bring her fresh baked goods to her school just for the love of baking, her fellow teachers started placing orders, and encouraged her to sell them. \u00a0So in 2011 she made the life-changing decision to launch a bakery, Chic Sweets Fine Desserts.<\/p>

When I first came to the United States ,I was admitted to the Intensive care unit of a hospital for a life-threatening illness. Despite the fact that I was unable to communicate in English, I was not offered an interpreter. Not being able to fully understand what was happening added tenfold to my stress level. Later, I found out that my case was not unique and that interpreters are not always provided for individuals with limited English proficiency.<\/p>
